Sabalenka through to WTA quarter-finals

Aryna Sabalenka has progressed to the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy quarter-finals with victory over Alison Van Uytvanck.

Aryna Sabalenka won her first match as a top-10 player as she reached the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy quarter-finals with victory over Alison Van Uytvanck.

The Belarusian, who climbed to 10th in the world rankings after a run to the third round at the Australian Open, saw off the Belgian 6-1 6-4 on Thursday.

Fourth seed Sabalenka, 20, took advantage of seven second serves from Van Uytvanck as she set up victory by powering through the first set.

World No.32 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who reached the last eight in Melbourne, also won through as she saw off sixth seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-4 6-4.

Second seed Kiki Bertens had little trouble as she beat Ysaline Bonaventure 6-4 6-2 in just over an hour while Ekaterina Alexandrova overcame Tereza Martincova 7-5 6-2.
