The former chief magistrate of Nauru says he's deeply disappointed over being sacked and deported last weekend.

Peter Law, who had worked on Nauru for more than three years, says he was taken to the airport by police and put on a plane to Sydney.

The Nauru government says it held concerns over Mr Law's impartiality.

Mr Law has strongly denied the allegations, and says the termination of his contract will delay hearings for 85 asylum seekers accused of involvement in riots on the Australian detention centre on the island last year.

He spoke with Naomi Selvaratnam.
