St Kilda have continued their recent signing spree by locking in star midfielder David Armitage for three more seasons until the end of 2019.

Armitage's signing follows that of senior AFL coach Alan Richardson, who has re-committed for three years, and midfielder Jack Steven for five.

Armitage, 27, has been in career-best form this season and added some valuable experience to the young Saints line-up.

The 124-gamer has collected 495 possessions to rank fifth in the AFL.

Already signed for 2016, he will now be a Saint until at least the end of the 2019 season.

Picked up in the draft in 2006, Armitage said he never considered leaving.

"There are exciting times around the club at the moment with a lot of quality young players coming through, and we are clearly heading in the right direction, Armitage told saints.com.au.

"I'm really enjoying my football right at the moment and there's a good feeling among the group.

"I look forward to helping take the club to the next stage including returning to finals as soon as possible.

Richardson said Armitage had worked hard to improve his game and emerged as a club leader.

"His game has improved rapidly and he has shown himself to be a crucial part of our team," Richardson said.

"For him to sign on for a further three years is a real indication of the belief our senior group has in the direction this team is taking."
