The Salvation Army has suspended one of its retired officers amid serious allegations raised in the Royal Commission investigating child sex abuse.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse is holding public hearings looking into what occurred at four boys' homes in Queensland and NSW between the late 1950s and 1977.
The commission has identified five officers of the Salvation Army about whom there are serious allegations - including John McIver, Donald Schultz, and Victor Bennett and Lawrence Wilson, both deceased.
The Salvation Army announced on Thursday afternoon it had suspended retired officer Mr McIver in light of evidence tendered to the commission.
Mr McIver is suspended pending further investigations into the matter raised, the organisation said in a statement.
In regards to the other officers named, Mr Walker and Mr Schultz were previously dismissed.
Mr Wilson resigned from the Salvation Army in 1982 and died in 2008, the statement read.
