Samsung unveils new large-screen tablet

Samsung has unveiled a new tablet with a 12.2-inch screen in an effort to bring the productivity of laptops to the tablet category.

Samsung has defied the trend towards smaller tablets, unveiling a model with a 12.2-inch screen.

The Galaxy NotePRO, unveiled on Monday at an event in Las Vegas, is expected to be available in Australia by the end of March.

Its 12.2-inch screen is larger than that found on many laptops, and the device is targeted at an area in which laptops still have an advantage over tablets: productivity.

The tablet's screen can be split into four smaller windows, which Samsung says improves a user's ability to multitask.

The larger screen size also means the pop-up keyboard obscures a relatively smaller amount of the screen, Samsung says. A separate keyboard and mouse cost extra.

The tablet comes with the same stylus as previous smartphones and tablets in the Note range, and has Cisco's web conferencing software built-in.

The high-definition, widescreen display has a 2560x1600 pixel resolution.

The tablet was unveiled ahead of the International Consumer Electronics Show along with the TabPRO range, which will come in 8.4, 10.1 and 12.1-inch models.

Samsung has yet to announce how much the tablets will cost.
