Santillan through to boys' semis at Open

Australian Akira Santillan has advanced to the semi-finals of the boys' singles at the Australian Open.

Akira Santillan is the last local still standing in the junior singles' events at the Australian Open.

The 16th-seeded Santillan upset No.6 seed Duck Hee Lee from South Korea 6-4 3-6 6-3 in their quarter-final at Melbourne Park on Thursday.

Fellow Australian Marc Polmans was outclassed 6-4 6-2 by top-seeded Russian Roman Safiullin.

Santillan - who plays South Korean Hong Seong-Chan in the semis on Friday - remains on track to become the fifth Australian in the past nine years to win the boys' singles crown at Melbourne Park.

Nick Kyrgios won the junior title two years ago, beating countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis in the final.

No Australians made it through to the last eight of the girls' singles at Melbourne Park this year.
