Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed notified the Pakistan Cricket Board after claiming he had been approached with regard to spot-fixing, according to reports.
PCB chairman Najam Sethi confirmed an unnamed international had "immediately" reported the matter to the governing body, which has in turn alerted the International Cricket Council's anti-corruption unit (ACU).
"A player was approached. As per rules he immediately reported to PCB who informed ICC. Matters are jointly in hand. No further comment," Sethi wrote on Twitter.
Multiple sources have announced the player as skipper Sarfraz, who oversaw Pakistan's unlikely path to Champions Trophy glory in England earlier this year.
The incident apparently occurred in Abu Dhabi the day before Pakistan's seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the third one-day international on October 18.
Under the ACU code, a player must report an approach "without unnecessary delay" and failure to do so can result in a minimum ban of six months.
Sarfraz's international teammates Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Nawaz earlier this year served suspensions after admitting to not disclosing separate approaches from bookmakers to the PCB during the Pakistan Super League.
