Sass & Bide survive NY Fashion Week drama

After fabric arrived late from Brazil, Australian duo Sass & Bide had to work through the night to finish their collection for New York Fashion Week.

A last-minute glitch did not prevent Australian design duo Sass & Bide from producing a stunning ready-to-wear autumn collection at New York Fashion Week.

Designer Sarah-Jane Clarke said a few pieces from the bold collection almost didn't make it onto the runway on Wednesday.

"We had fabric that was stuck in Brazil which didn't arrive until two days ago so we worked all through the night to get some pieces whipped up," Clarke told AAP in a phone interview.

"There always seems to be something which happens, but it keeps everyone awake and running on good energy."

The clothes - including a pair of plaid pants and a bandeau top - that caused the sleepless nights had their debut halfway through the show.

"To make sure we got the pieces finished, we had the whole office on standby and they had to work through the night," Clarke said.

The show marks the team's ninth run at New York Fashion Week.

A favourite brand with celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Beyonce and Nicole Richie, Sass & Bide opened its flagship store on Broome St in New York's SoHo neighbourhood last November.

Clarke and her design partner Heidi Middleton, who are based in Sydney, have yet to rule out a permanent move to the US.

"There's a lot of desire from many people for us to move here," Clarke explained.

"But we just love Sydney; it's such a great place to live, so we're very torn because of course we know how amazing it could be if we moved here, but we're torn between our hearts and our heads."

The duo celebrated the success of their New York show at The Smile on New York's hip Bond St.

"We felt the name of the place was very appropriate and it's a very low-key intimate place, so it suits us very well," Clarke said.
