Former Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has cancelled a three-day visit to Perth ahead of the imminent executions of two Australian drug smugglers.
Dr Yudhoyono was billed as a headline speaker at the University of Western Australia's In The Zone leadership forum on Friday.
The university's vice chancellor Paul Johnson said Dr Yudhoyono had deferred the trip because of "timing sensitivities".
Bali Nine ringleaders Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan could face a firing squad within days despite last-ditch appeals by Australian political leaders.
However, Professor Johnson says the former president still plans to deliver the keynote address via a video link.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Western Australia's Premier Colin Barnett will also speak at the forum.
The university has offered Dr Yudhoyono a role as a visiting professor and senior fellow and intend awarding him an honorary degree.
