School back in session for NSW students

Nearly 800,000 NSW students are heading back to the classroom to begin the first term of 2016.

The summer holidays are over in NSW with nearly 800,000 students heading back to school.

More than 300 new teachers and 42 principals will also begin new roles in public schools across the state on Thursday.

Schools will get an extra $113 million of additional needs-based funding this year, while $224 million will be invested to allow more teachers to mentor their colleagues in 2016, Education Minister Adrian Piccoli says.
