Schools locked down in New Zealand

Two Coromandel schools have been locked down as armed police and helicopters respond to reports a man has fired a gun at a house bus.

Two schools at Coromandel on New Zealand's North Island have been locked down as armed police search for a man alleged to have fired a gun at a mobile home.

A police helicopter is currently circling near a home on State Highway 25 where they say a number of shots were fired at a motor home on the property.

The police Armed Offenders Squad has also been called out.

Two schools in the area have been told to go into lockdown.

The highway, also known as Kopu-Hikuai Road, has been closed between State Highway 26 and Kitahi Road and diversions are in place.
