An irritated Diego Schwartzman has silenced chirpy Kevin Anderson in a niggly French Open fourth-round affair in Paris.

Schwartzman accused Anderson of over-the-top celebrations before staging an epic fightback to put the South African in his place with a stirring 1-6 2-6 7-5 7-6 (7-0) 6-2 triumph on Monday.

Anderson, the 2017 US Open runner-up, twice served for the match - at 5-4 in both the third set and fourth sets - only to run out of steam after surrendering the fourth-set tiebreaker to love.

Anderson's collapse came after the Argentine vented his frustrations over the sixth seed's vocal self-urgings at chair umpire Marijana Veljovic.

"I never see something like this. No matter if he played a good point or if I do a bad choice, he's always saying something. Come on, shut up," the 11th-seeded Schwartzman moaned during a changeover.

"It's not respect. You have to have some respect for the (other) players because when I miss the ball, be quiet.

"Not every point saying 'come on, yeah, yeah, come on. Shut up."

The Serbian official told Schwartzman she agreed with him, without intervening.

But the South American had the final say, closing out a near-four-hour victory with his eighth ace and celebrating wildly after setting up a likely quarter-final shot at 10-time champion Rafael Nadal.
