Scorchers down Strikers in BBL

An impressive spell with the ball from veteran Brad Hogg helped guide Perth Scorchers to an 18-run win over Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval.

Perth Scorchers have ended Adelaide Strikers' perfect record in the Big Bash League following an 18-run win at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday night.

Adelaide looked likely to extend their perfect run to five after continuing their strong form with the ball in the first innings, restricting the visitors to just 6-133.

But Perth's bowling unit was equally impressive, removing the hosts for 115 with three balls to spare in front of 42,654 spectators.

A superb mid-innings performance from 43-year-old Brad Hogg, who had figures of 2-11 in his four overs, helped steer Perth to victory.

Hogg removed Travis Head (14) and Strikers debutant Ryan ten Doeschate (4), while Alex Ross was run out for a duck with the delivery following Head's dismissal.

Andrew Tye chipped in with 2-20, Ashton Agar collected 2-24 while Yasir Arafat and Jason Behrendorff finished with a wicket each.

Adelaide's best with the bat were openers Tim Ludeman (22) and Craig Simmons (17).

The home side won their second toss of the tournament and elected to bowl, unsurprising given they'd won four matches from as many starts this season by taking to the field first.

The Scorchers were slow off the mark and posted just six runs in the first two overs, before Michael Klinger and Marcus Harris combined in the third over to produce 15 runs.

But Adelaide then ripped through Perth's top order, Ben Laughlin starting the rot by dismissing Harris for just nine runs before a maiden over from Kane Richardson.

Young spinner Adam Zampa then removed Klinger (21) and Michael Carberry (11) in the same over and Perth were struggling at 3-50 from 10 overs.

Scorchers skipper Adam Voges ensured a respectable total for the visitors with a knock of 54 not out from 30 balls with six boundaries, but finding a partner proved difficult with Ashton Agar dismissed by speedster Shaun Tait for a duck and Sam Whiteman following soon after with just two runs.

Yasir Arafat added 18 not out from his short spell in the middle to boost Perth's total.

The Strikers' best with the ball was Zampa who finished with 2-26 while Tait and Ben Laughlin both recorded 2-27.

Adelaide spin bowler Zampa said it was disappointing the Strikers failed to fire with the bat after an impressive performance with the ball.

"I guess we started well with the bat but through the middle and the end there we just didn't get the job done unfortunately," Zampa said.

"We're disappointed with how that went tonight I guess but the positive is we do have four wins and we've still got a few games to go."

Veteran Hogg said he was delighted Perth were able to contain Adelaide and hold on for the win.

"It's great, its always good to be able to go out there in the middle and have a win," Hogg said.

"The boys are playing really good cricket."
