Scorchers sign England bowlers for WBBL

The Perth Scorchers have secured England bowlers Anya Shrubsole and Katherine Brunt for the Women's Big Bash League.

The Perth Scorchers have finalised their 15-player squad for the Women's Big Bash League with three signings including two England international bowlers to open the attack.

The Scorchers have secured 24-year-old English fast bowler Anya Shrubsole and re-signed last season's player of the year Katherine Brunt.

England vice-captain Shrubsole is second on the ICC Player Rankings for Women's T20 International bowlers and fifth on the all-time wicket-takers list in Women's T20 Internationals despite her young age.

Wicketkeeper Emily Smith, 21, has also joined the Scorchers after spending last season with the Hobart Hurricanes.

Scorchers coach Lisa Keightley was delighted to secure Shrubsole, who didn't play in the inaugural WBBL, and Brunt who open the bowling for their country in the short format.

"I think they're the best opening bowling combination in world cricket in this format," Keightley said.
