The Perth Scorchers have signed rising star Ashton Turner for this summer's Twenty20 Big Bash league, while veteran Simon Katich will captain the Perth-based franchise once again.

Turner, a former Australian under-19 representative, hit the headlines on Wednesday when he was named as Michael Clarke's replacement for Australia's three-day tour match against Sussex.

The talented all-rounder is yet to make his first-class debut, but he impressed with a score of 51 during his sole one-day appearance for Western Australia last summer.

Katich captained the Scorchers to the decider of last season's BBL, but the 37-year-old wants to go one step further after being part of two losing finals.

"I wanted to play another season with the Scorchers as I feel we still have unfinished business," Katich said.

"We have been very consistent in the first few seasons but unfortunately we were outplayed on the day in both finals.

"The hurt of missing those opportunities will only keep us hungry and more determined to work harder this year to put us in contention again."

The Scorchers also confirmed the signings of spinner Michael Beer and batsman Liam Davis, but there's still six spots on their list that need to be filled.

Scorchers coach Justin Langer is keen to lure back import Alfonso Thomas, while he's also in talks with hometown hero Brad Hogg.

The Scorchers boast plenty of young talent on their list, with Mitch Marsh, Turner, Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Pat Cummins all tipped to enjoy distinguished careers on the international arena.

Current Scorchers squad: Simon Katich (capt), Michael Beer, Ashton Turner, Liam Davis, Adam Voges, Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Mitch Marsh, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Shaun Marsh, Tom Triffitt.
