The Perth Scorchers' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League T20 semi-finals are over after a 13-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings in Bangalore on Saturday night.

Perth captain Adam Voges won the toss and sent Chennai to bat first.

They made 6-155 and the Scorchers could manage just 7-142 in reply.

MS Dhoni put the Scorchers to the sword with an inspired 35 off 16 balls, which included three consecutive sixes.

Perth had bowled expertly to restrict Chennai to 4-69 after 14 overs before Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja (44 off 28) piled on 86 runs in the final six overs.

The West Australians never got going in the chase for 156, despite the best efforts of Voges (27 off 24) and a late Nathan Coulter-Nile cameo (30 off 21).

The Scorchers still have one game to play on Tuesday against Lahore Lions.
