Geelong coach Chris Scott is open to a cap on interchanges and 16-a-side as the AFL grapples with the look of the game.
Congestion around the ball is a hot topic this season and it is certain to be a key topic on Monday night when AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan has his annual dinner with the senior coaches.
One of the potential solutions is putting a brake on interchange rotations, which have become a key tactical ploy over the last decade.
"I'd have a really good look at reducing it - I'm open to anything there - but less than we currently have," Scott told Channel Seven's Game day.
Likewise, Scott is open-minded about the radical idea of keeping players in designated zones.
Currently, the game is too often a rolling maul, with all 36 players near the ball as teams try to stop the opposition from gaining a quick break out into the open.
"In some capacity, we should think about it, but I do love the idea of our game being one where the players can go wherever they like - so maybe starting points (at centre bounces)," Scott said.
Reducing the number of players on the ground from 18 per team to 16 is another suggested potential solution to congestion.
"We should have a good look at 16 a side, if congestion is a problem, that's the easiest way to fix it," Scott said.
"I'm not saying we should do it, but we should think about it."
Scott also defended Geelong's frequent late team changes before matches, saying none had been tactical.
He also has mixed feelings about the new-look tribunal system, with Michael Christian as the sole match reviewer.
"It's not perfect, but it's better," Scott said.
