Scott in PGA struggle amid rain and gusts

Darkness has forced Australia's Adam Scott from the course after 14 holes on a rain-interrupted second day of the Wells Fargo Championship.

Adam Scott has struggled in atrocious conditions but remains within striking distance of the leaders after an incomplete round at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Starting the day in a tie for 31st, Scott slipped 15 places in the rain and wind before play was suspended because of fading light.

The Australian was forced from the course after 14 holes.

Scott made a bright start with birdies on the par-3 second and par-3 fifth holes.

But his good work came undone with a double bogey on the par-7 6th and successive bogeys on the par-4 eighth and par-4 ninth holes.

The world No.11 steadied with a birdie on the par-3 10th to sit at even-par for the tournament.

Matt Jones posted his second successive round of 72 to be one shot ahead of Scott as the best-placed Australian.

Jones is six shots behind joint leaders Billy Hurley III, Seamus Power, John Peterson and Francesco Molinari at five-under par.

Stuart Appleby (four-over par) as well as Geoff Ogilvy and Greg Chalmers are high-profile Australian names likely to miss the cut when the second round is completed.
