Adam Scott is leaning towards keeping his long broomstick putter in play in 2016 despite the upcoming ban on anchoring.
Speaking to pgatour.com Scott said while he still may use a conventional short putter next season, keeping the long putter without anchoring it to his chest is becoming a serious option.
"I've got as far as I see it two good options; I can un-anchor the long putter, I do that well, or putt with a short one, and I know what I'm up for there because I used it a few rounds this year," Scott said.
"I like the long one with the same action I've been using. I just have to shorten the putter a few inches and everything else stays the same.
"The putter is so good, if there was any concern of it not being stable when it's un-anchored it's gone."
Scott used a short putter three times this season, finishing fourth at Doral before a missed cut in Tampa and a T35 at Bay Hill, before switching back to the broomstick.
Sitting in 94th on the FedEx Cup list this week, the 2013 Masters champion needs a good result at the Barclays tournament to stay alive.
After using brother-in-law and coach Brad Malone as his caddy last week Scott has enlisted veteran Ricci Roberts for the playoffs but remains hopeful he can create a workable schedule for Kiwi Steve Williams again next year, even if it is on a part-time basis.
Meanwhile newly crowned major champion Jason Day put a brief scare through the tournament but says his withdrawal from the Pro-am at the opening playoff event is just a precaution after tweaking his back lifting a box in his motor home late Tuesday night.
"I will be fine, it is just a precaution and hopefully I'll be 100 per cent on the first tee Thursday," Day told AAP.
"It wasn't the weight of the box or anything silly like that more just the way I turned my back as I lifted it.
"But it should be fine with a little bit of rest.
Day is scheduled to play the opening two rounds with world No.1 Jordan Spieth and world No.4 Bubba Watson as the top three point scorers in the FedEx Cup this season.
He has set his sights on winning the $US10million bonus to put his name into consideration for player of the year.
