Scott would love to coach Kelly in AFL

North Melbourne's Brad Scott says he'd love to coach GWS midfielder Josh Kelly, but he's staying out of the speculation on his AFL future.

Brad Scott stresses he is only one voice on North Melbourne's AFL list management committee.

When it comes to emerging Giants midfielder Josh Kelly, it's a very enthusiastic voice.

"He'd be a nice player to coach, that's for sure," Scott said.

Kelly comes out of contract at the end of this season and North are dangling a monster nine-year deal in front of him, reportedly worth $9 million.

Giants coach Leon Cameron is hopeful that Kelly will re-commit to GWS soon.

Cameron also said this week that it has become a tactic for confidential contract offers to find their way into the media.

In the space of a few days, Kelly has joined Richmond star Dustin Martin and Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe as the subjects of intense speculation about their AFL futures beyond this season.

Scott said while Kelly is an exceptional young player, he will stay out of the talk about his future.

"We have a really clear strategy with what we're setting up," the North coach said.

"But I think the problem with the industry now is there's going to be a lot of speculation and a lot of innuendo and a lot of rumour, because that's what it is.

"Sometimes rumour is reported as fact, but we just have to let that all slide and let everyone talk about it and not engage in the running commentary."

Kelly's father Phil played 61 games for the Kangaroos in the 1980s.

"We lobbied the AFL to change the father-son rule back to 50 games, but they saw through that," Scott joked.
