Scrivener retains European Tour card

Australian Jason Scrivener's seventh-placed finish at the qualifying school final stage in Spain was enough to help him keep his European Tour card.

Australian Jason Scrivener has retained his European Tour Card, finishing tied for seventh at qualifying school final stage in Spain on Thursday.

The 26-year-old shot a final-round one-under 71, six shots off the pace for the tournament, but was enough to secure a card-earning top-25 finish after entering the last day of competition in ninth place.

Scrivener secured four top-20 finishes in his first full year on the European Tour, but was forced to qualify again after being ranked 117 in the field at the end of 2015.

He was the only Australian to qualify, after reigning Australian Masters champion Nick Cullen blew a first-round lead to finish tied for 60th after a disastrous five-over final round.

Cullen shot 11-under in the opening round to set up a dream position, however rounds of one-over, six-over and five-over in the second, fourth and sixth rounds respectively saw him tumble out of contention.

Fellow Australians Daniel Gaunt and Dimi Papadatos can consider themselves unlucky, both shooting over-par final rounds to finish one shot off the crucial top-25 finish.

Spaniard Adrian Otaegui, American Daniel Im and Ulrich Van Den Berg all finished tied for first, shooting 18-under across the six rounds.
