The search for an elderly woman missing in NSW bushland has entered its fourth day.

Gaida Coote, 84, has been missing since Wednesday, when it's believed she drove to Ku-Ring-Gai Wildflower Garden at St Ives in Sydney's north.

Rescuers on Saturday afternoon began to scale back their search as heavy cloud cover and rain set in, but said they were expecting to resume their efforts on Sunday morning.

Mrs Coote is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a thin build and short wavy grey hair.
