Search resumes for man at Qld waterfall

A search has resumed for an 18-year-old man who slipped and fell at a popular Cairns waterfall on Tuesday.

A search has resumed for a man feared drowned at a popular Cairns swimming hole.

The 18-year-old lost his footing and fell at the Crystal Cascades Waterfalls between 3pm and 3.30pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

There has been no trace of him since.

Acting Senior Sergeant Trevor Perham said accidents were common at the waterhole.

"People are often lulled into a false sense of security by the beauty of the waterfall and become accustomed to the height but they are often very slippery ... accidents frequently happen," he told ABC Radio.

The man, from the Cairns suburb of Kewarra Beach, was swimming with friends when he disappeared.

The scene was guarded overnight before the search resumed on Wednesday morning.

State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, police divers and uniform officers are involved in the search.
