Search suspended for missing Vic sailor

The search for a missing yachtsman off Victoria's coast has been suspended for a second night as night falls.

The search for a sailor whose yacht was found on rocks in Victoria's far east has been suspended for a second night.

The missing 65-year-old Wodonga man sailed for Eden on the NSW south coast from Paynesville on the Gippsland Lakes on Saturday but never arrived in Eden.

An abalone fishing crew spotted the stricken yacht near Mallacoota on Monday, sparking a search that has involved Victorian water police, the air ambulance, coast guard and State Emergency Service.

The search will resume on Wednesday morning.
