Second major crash on same Vic road

The latest crash at Tullamarine follows an earlier pile-up on the same road at nearby Keilor Park, both occurring during peak traffic hours.

Two multi-vehicle crashes have closed the same stretch of Melbourne road twice in one day.

The collisions, one about 8.30am and the other just before 6.30pm, occurred on the busy Western Ring Road during peak traffic hours on Wednesday.

Outbound lanes remain closed as emergency services respond to the latest crash at Tullamarine.

Two men have been taken to hospital in a serious condition, one with chest injuries.

A third man, who was trapped in his car, suffered abdominal injuries but was in a stable condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman told AAP.

The accident follows an earlier pile-up on the same road at nearby Keilor Park, in which seven cars and two trucks crashed.

Police say a truck rear-ended a car, which was then pushed into six other cars.

Several of those cars then collided with another truck carrying bricks.

The woman from the first car is critically injured in Royal Melbourne Hospital. A man and woman from the second car have been treated for minor injuries.

In another multi-vehicle crash in Melbourne's west, a woman was trapped in her car for 30 minutes after four cars and a truck collided on Aviation Road, Laverton, just after 8.30am.

The woman was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition with chest and back injuries.
