A day after winning a breakthrough gold medal at the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Madrid, Perth teenager Maddison Keeney teamed up with London Olympian Anabelle Smith on Saturday to win gold in the 3-metre synchro event.

17-year-old Keeney stared down two of China's best divers to win the 3-metre individual event on Friday, and then repeated the result with Smith over Chinese divers Lin Qu and Qulin Zheng in a small but strong 3-metre synchro final.

Keeney has been rated highly by Diving Australia in recent years and showed her potential when she briefly led a field of the world's best in the 1-metre event at the Barcelona World Championships last year.

She completed her year 12 studies in Perth last year and has moved to Brisbane to work in the high performance program.

Smith, who finished fifth in Friday's 3-metre final, spent most of last year diving with a cast on her hand after crushing her fingers during weights training.
