Second-straight lay day called at Fiji Pro

Competition at surfing's Fiji Pro has been called off on Wednesday due to small waves.

Australian stars Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson's charge at the Fiji Pro has been halted at least another day after the surfing competition was called off on Wednesday.

A second-straight lay day has been called at Cloudbreak due to small waves, but World Surf League event organisers are expecting more favourable conditions later in the week.

"We do not have enough swell on offer, so we are calling the event off for the day," surf league deputy commissioner Renato Hickel said.

"There is a long period swell forecast to come in at the end of this week, which could provide some great waves for the competitors."

When competition resumes, three-time world champion Fanning will take on French Polynesian Michal Bourez in the elimination third round.

World no.6 Parkinson is due to face Frenchman Jeremy Flores, while fellow Australians Connor O'Leary, Bede Durbidge and Stuart Kennedy will also compete in the third round.
