Second teen dies in NSW wombat crash

A teenage driver has died in hospital after a car crashed into a wombat in NSW's central west and also killed a 14-year-old passenger.

A second teenager has died after a car crashed into a wombat and flipped in central west NSW.

Emergency services were called to the single-car crash on Friday night, just before midnight, to find a car flipped on its roof just northeast of Mudgee.

A 14-year-old boy died at the scene, while a 16-year-old unlicensed driver suffered head injuries after being thrown from the car.

He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Sunday morning.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
