Geelong skipper Joel Selwood has flagged his intention to become a one-club player by signing a contract extension until the end of the 2019 AFL season.

The 27-year-old has played 204 games for the Cats, winning three premierships, three club best and fairest awards and has been named All-Australian four times.

"Both Joel and the club are pleased to get this arrangement agreed so quickly and it seems almost certain now that Joel will spend his entire career with the Cats," Geelong's general manager of football Steve Hocking said.

The courageous midfielder was pick No.7 in the 2006 draft and took over the captaincy from Cameron Ling at the start of 2012.

He became the youngest-ever player to reach 200 games for Geelong last year, adding to his sparkling list of achievements during his time with the Cats.

"Joel is an outstanding leader of our club, the ultimate professional, and we are really pleased to have extended his services over the next four seasons," Hocking said.

"His list of accolades speak for themselves and his work ethic and determination is admired by his teammates and coaches.

"Joel has enjoyed a great deal of success already in his career, but it's clear that he is hungry to achieve even more in the coming years."
