Selwood revels in uniting with Dangerfield

Geelong captain Joel Selwood says he's loving playing AFL football with prized recruit Patrick Dangerfield.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood says he's not annoyed by a public fascination for himself and the AFL club's prized recruit, Patrick Dangerfield.

The star midfielders are building an ominous on-field relationship for the Cats, who play the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

The pair are being frequently spoken of in the same breath, but Selwood says they take scant notice of the attention.

"We understand that people will write what they do ... we have a laugh every now and then," Selwood told Fox Footy's AFL 360 program on Thursday night.

"We are close, but we're not silly (close)."

Selwood said he had long imagined playing with Dangerfield, who has returned to his home town of Mogg's Creek near Geelong after spending eight seasons with the Adelaide Crows.

"For a long time I had a vision of him coming over to Geelong and joining Geelong because I knew the childhood that he lived, he enjoyed barracking for Geelong," Selwood said.

"To have him here now and to see him play the footy, enjoy life outside of the footy club too, just brings a different aspect to the footy club and it's something I have really enjoyed."

Selwood said Dangerfield was largely unaffected by the rave reviews he was getting about his on-field excellence.

"I do worry about Paddy, but, as we have seen, he's a pretty capable individual," Selwood said.

"When accolades or people pumping him up come his way, he handles it pretty well."
