Senate orders release of tax information

Centre Alliance senator Rex Patrick has secured support for a motion ordering the tax commissioner to give up information about large financial companies.

The Senate has ordered the tax commissioner to give a parliamentary committee details of financial sector entities with turnovers of $100 million which didn't pay tax.

Centre Alliance senator Rex Patrick, with the support of Labor and the Greens, passed a motion on Tuesday asking for tax information dating between 2000 and 2016.

The order includes companies which did not lodge tax returns during that period, with the information to be given to the Senate's economics committee.
