The Senate has voted to scrap restrictive photography rules that have long irritated the media.

As it stands now, photographs can only be taken of the senator who has the call, unlike in the House of Representatives where the media can photograph any MP at any time.

But that will change as of November 28, thanks to a motion by crossbencher Derryn Hinch agreed to by the upper house on Thursday.
