Senden chance to break PGA drought

John Senden is aiming for his first US PGA Tour win in seven years, going into the final round of Georgia's McGladrey Classic one shot off the lead.

FP - John Senden has given himself a good chance to claim just his second US PGA Tour victory at the $A5.84 million McGladrey Classic.

The seasoned Queenslander shot a two-under-par 68 to be tied third, one shot behind joint leaders Briny Baird (67) and Chris Kirk (68) going into the final round at Sea Island in Georgia.

Senden could badly use a morale-boosting victory, not to mention the two-year tour exemption and Masters entry that go with it.

His only win on the tour came more than seven years ago in the 2006 John Deere Classic.

The 42-year-old is coming off a tough 2013 season, having failed to notch a top-10 finish for the first time in a decade.

He made four birdies but gave up two bogeys and was tied with Kevin Stadler (65) and Brian Gay (66) on nine-under 201.

Sunday promises to be a shoot-out, with the top 12 players separated by just four strokes.

Brendon Todd and Scott Brown shared sixth place on 202, while Jason Kokrak was alone on 203.

A shot further back on 204 are 2012 US Open champion Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar, Daniel Summerhays and Matt Every.

The top eight players on the leaderboard have combined for seven career wins on the tour, and that includes Gay's four victories.

Baird is in search of his first US PGA Tour win in his 365th start.

The 41-year-old had surgery on both shoulders in 2012 and missed all of the 2013 campaign.

Kirk, 28, won in 2011 and has local knowledge on his side as a Sea Island resident.
