Senior retires from PGA Tour Champions

Peter Senior has retired from the US PGA Tour Champions, but will continue his golf career at home in Australia after returning to the Gold Coast.

Australian golfer Peter Senior has retired from the American PGA Tour Champions due to persistent elbow injuries.

However the the 56-year-old will continue to play on his home circuit after returning to the Gold Coast to "retire" as a touring professional.

"He said this was going to be his last year anyway," his coach Peter Edwin said.

"He can't practise before he plays. He's going back home, the kids are happy for him to be coming home.

"He'll play golf but I don't think he'll do much international travel."

Senior earned more than $US5.4 million ($A7.08 million) in seven seasons on the Champions Tour, but failed to snatch a win despite finishing in the top 10 on 40 occasions.

He also has 34 professional wins to his name, including three Australian PGA titles and two Australian Opens and three Australian Masters, along with a tied-fourth finish at the British Open in 1993.
