Services fine for ex-Manus men: Bishop

The 600 men being kicked out of the Manus Island facility will be appropriately catered for at new facilities, says the acting prime minister.

Acting prime minister Julie Bishop says refugees and asylum seekers on Manus Island will be guaranteed all appropriate services at their alternative accommodation.

The regional processing centre is being closed on Tuesday but the detainees are determined not to leave.

Ms Bishop said the government was in "constant communication" with PNG authorities.

"Today the regional processing centre on Manus Island will be closed and the PNG government has made alternative accommodation arrangements," she told reporters in Perth.

"I understand the PNG government has made arrangements for all essential services to be available at the alternative accommodation - food, water, electricity and medical services."

She said those who were not refugees or owed protection "should leave and go home".

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said in a statement the 600 men at the centre, who had known since May it was closing, would not get to Australia.

Facilities for refugees have been established at East Lorengau Refugee Transit Centre or West Lorengau House.

Those who have been found not to be refugees should relocate to Hillside Haus, he said.

Those found to be refugees can settle within PNG as agreed in 2013.

Otherwise they can apply for resettlement in the United States or seek to move to Nauru.

Voluntary returns to home countries would continue to be facilitated by PNG and Australia, Mr Dutton said.
