Services sector activity fell in April after two months of moderate expansion, weighed down by weak spending and subdued business confidence and investment.
The Australian Industry Group's Performance of Services Index (PSI) fell 0.5 points to 49.7 in April, falling below the 50 level, which separates expansion from contraction.
Ai Group chief executive Innes Willox said a "moderately stimulatory" federal budget next week will be an important factor in improving the moods of consumers and businesses.
