Residents entering flooded homes across the Adelaide Hills have been warned to watch for hidden dangers, including electrical issues, debris and contaminated water.
With the flood risk reducing, a number of property owners are preparing to return to begin the clean-up.
The State Emergency Service says they should be aware of possible electrical problems from water affecting wiring and also the potential for damage to electrical appliances.
Contaminated water can also pose health risk, particularly for the elderly, those with medical conditions or the very young.
SES chief of staff Derren Halleday said residents who experienced flooding should get an electrician to check out wiring and appliances before turning anything on.
"With potential hazards unseen and lurking in the water or in the wiring, residents should seek professional help before re-entering homes," he said.
