More than 2,000 women each year in Australia give birth to extremely premature babies, who are born less than 28 weeks after gestation began.
The Australia’s mothers and babies 2012 report says more than 2,500 extremely premature babies were born that year.
This week, Insight will explore the issues around saving babies in the "grey zone", in the 23 week to 26 week period.
