Seven killed as truck hits crowd in Mexico

A truck with faulty brakes has slammed into a group of protesting teachers in Mexico, killing at least seven.

A truck with apparent brake defects has driven into a crowd of protesting teachers in southern Mexico, killing at least seven people and injuring nine others, the website Milenio and other local media are reporting.

The truck hit several cars before hitting the crowd in Tuxtla Gutierrez in Chiapas state on Wednesday.

The state prosecutor's office said the accident was triggered by problems with the vehicle's brakes which caused the driver to lose control.

Local media say teachers and police officers were among those killed in the accident. The driver suffered only minor injuries.
