Seventh meningococcal case in Tasmania

A 64-year-old Hobart man is the seventh confirmed case of meningococcal in Tasmania this year, the fifth with meningococcal W strain.

A 64-year-old man remains in Royal Hobart Hospital in a stable condition after contracting meningococcal W, authorities say.

The man from Hobart's Eastern Shore was confirmed to have meningococcal on Saturday and the strain confirmed Sunday, making him the seventh case in Tasmania and the fifth with the W strain.

Acting Public Health Director Scott McKeown says it is not connected to the meningococcal W outbreak in New Town, Moonah and Glenorchy which has been the focus of a public vaccination program.
