A car being pursued by Victorian police has crashed into another car, sending three people to hospital.

Three people have been taken to hospital after a collision between two cars during a Victorian police pursuit.

Police say a divisional van was pursuing a car in the Ballarat suburb of Wendouree when the car collided with another vehicle at about 7pm (AEDT).

A female passenger in the car that was being pursued was trapped in the car for a short time and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The male driver of the car, a 39-year-old Sebastopol man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is under police guard.

A woman in her 70s from the other vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while a man and boy in her car were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
