Severe fire danger warnings are in place for parts of Western Australia.

Residents in the coastal areas of the Carnarvon and Shark Bay shires should be ready to act in the event of a fire on Sunday, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warns.

The DFES says that if any fires start they will be unpredictable, fast moving and difficult to control.

Residents should leave early or be prepared to defend their homes.
