Severe storm warning for parts of SA

Parts of South Australia could still experience flash flooding with heavy rain expected overnight, the weather bureau says.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of South Australia, with heavy rain potentially set to deliver flash flooding.

The weather bureau has issued the warning for the Flinders and Northeast Pastoral districts, with very heavy rainfall predicted in Leigh Creek, Moomba, Hawker, Arkaroola, Marree and Olary.

Residents in affected areas should stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe and avoid driving through flood water, the State Emergency Service says.

"We are urging parents to keep a close eye on their children around flooded creeks, drains and other waterways," SES chief officer Chris Beattie said on Monday.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting overnight falls of up to 20mm in the Adelaide metropolitan area and 35mm in the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Up to 120mm of rain was recorded at parts of the state near the Northern Territory border within a 24-hour period over the weekend.
