Tropical Cyclone Marcia has triggered a severe weather warning for northeastern NSW.
The Bureau of Meteorology is warning of heavy rain, strong winds and dangerous surf as Tropical Cyclone Marcia bears down on Queensland.
Heavy rain is expected in the Northern Rivers district, the Mid North Coast and eastern parts of the Northern Tablelands.
"The community should be aware king high tides may worsen the effects of flooding at lower tidal reaches," BOM NSW Regional Director Barry Hanstrum said on Thursday.
A Flood Watch has been issued for the NSW coast from the Queensland border to the Nambucca Valley for Friday and Saturday.
The area includes the Tweed, Brunswick, Richmond, Wilsons, Clarence, Bellinger and Nambucca River valleys.
People living in areas likely to be affected should "act now", NSW SES Commissioner Adam Dent said on Thursday evening.
"People living and working along rivers and streams should lift pumps and move livestock and equipment to higher ground and, if isolation is likely, stock up on food, fuel, medicine and other essentials."
