Shark hit with four-game NHL suspension

The NHL has banned San Jose Sharks' John Scott for four games for hitting an oponent with his stick.

The National Hockey League slapped San Jose Sharks enforcer John Scott with a four-game ban for hitting an opponent with the butt end of his stick.

Scott on Monday swung his right arm at Anaheim Ducks forward Tim Jackman, striking him in the face with the butt end at the of the second period of their game. Scott was also fined $US34,000. ($A36,700).

He will not be eligible to return until January 5, when the Sharks play the Jets in Winnipeg.
