Enigmatic Cronulla centre Ben Pomeroy has played his last game for the NRL club and will take up a two-year deal with French Super League outfit Catalans Dragons.

The French club announced the acquisition of the 29-year-old on their website on Saturday.

Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous said Pomeroy was an important addition to his side.

"Ben has played over 160 NRL games and will bring all his experience to our squad," Frayssinous said.

"He is very powerful, runs and tackles hard. He will be an asset to our attack and defensive line."

Pomeroy, who could delight and frustrate Sharks fans in equal measure, scored four tries in 20 games this year.

His robust running style came under scrutiny after he appeared to strike Newcastle utility Kurt Gidley with his forearm while carrying the ball in their round 20 clash at Shark Park in August.

The incident sparked a melee and Pomeroy was put on report but he was not charged by the NRL match review committee.

Pomeroy played 158 games for Cronulla from 2006 to 2013 after joining the Sharks following two seasons at Penrith where he played 10 NRL games.

His place in the centre at the Sharks in 2014 will be taken by former Wests Tiger Blake Ayshford who has joined Cronulla on a two-year deal.

Pomeroy has been signed by the Dragons as a replacement for winger Damien Blanch who has been linked to premiers the Sydney Roosters, where he could reunite with his former mentor Trent Robinson.

He coached the French side before linking up with the tricolours for the 2013 NRL season.

Pomeroy's last game for Cronulla was in their 24-18 loss to grand finalists Manly in the second week of the finals.
