Sharks rugby hooker Du Plessis suspended

Sharks hooker Bismarck du Plessis has been suspended from Super Rugby for a month after kicking an opponent in the head.

Springboks and Sharks hooker Bismarck du Plessis was suspended for four weeks on Monday for kicking an opponent in the head during a Super Rugby game.

Du Plessis was sent off for kicking Chiefs No.8 Michael Leitch after he was tackled and both players were lying on the ground. Southern hemisphere rugby body SANZAR said Du Plessis pleaded guilty to the offence.

Du Plessis was one of three players sent off in the first half in Saturday's game, a 12-11 win for the Sharks in Durban.

Chiefs hooker Hika Elliot was red-carded minutes before Du Plessis for an illegal shoulder charge at a ruck. He was suspended for one week.

Sharks centre Frans Steyn was sent off for a dangerous tip tackle and faces a disciplinary hearing.
