When the parents of Purvi Joshi see their murdered daughter in their sleep she is lying on the floor, gasping for breath.
"We see the scene of Purvi crying helplessly to defend herself. This awakens us, creating deep grief.
"(We see) her swollen face and bruised body ...we feel she is calling us for help to save her," Narendra and Pravina Joshi said in a victim impact statement read out to the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday during Manisha Patel's sentencing hearing.
Ms Joshi was murdered in the early hours of July 30, 2013 by her fiance's ex-lover, Patel.
The body of the 28-year-old was later found by her soon-to-be-husband Niraj Dave on the floor of their Kyeemagh bedroom in Sydney's south when he returned home from working night shift.
She had a knife sticking out of her abdomen and had been smothered and strangled to death.
The crown said Patel had been driven by "anger and jealousy" to kill Ms Joshi who had moved to Australia only weeks before to be with Mr Dave.
Unbeknownst to Ms Joshi, Mr Dave and Patel had been in a sexual relationship in the 18 months prior to her arrival and had terminated a pregnancy as a result.
In the statement read to court, Ms Joshi's parents, who remain in India, said the 32-year-old should have just told their daughter how she felt.
"She (our daughter) never would have hesitated to leave...and we would have advised her to do the same."
As a result of the murder, they said they have been socially ostracised in India, with family and friends blaming them for allowing Ms Joshi to move to Australia.
"We feel our life is finished," they said.
Defence barrister Scott Corish said Patel denied she was motivated by jealously when she killed Ms Joshi in what he described as an "impulsive" attack.
Patel, he submitted, had felt self-loathing after her trip to Dubai when she slept with Mr Dave.
The crown submits the killing was planned and done in a bid to "remove an unsuspecting romantic rival".
Patel pleaded not guilty to murder, saying she went to the apartment on the morning of July 30 to tell Ms Joshi about her terminated pregnancy to Mr Dave.
This version was rejected by the jury after just three hours of deliberations.
She is due to be sentenced on September 21.
