Star Greater Western Sydney midfielder Dylan Shiel has spurned interest from Victorian clubs to re-sign with the Giants on a two-year deal.

The talented 22-year-old's retention until the end of the 2017 AFL season is a coup for the Giants, who have already locked in their forward line-up and turned their focus to retaining the explosive midfield that's been such a big part of the fledgling club's success this season.

Shiel has been one of the game's best performers this year, averaging a career-high 28.6 disposals a game which ranks him ninth in the league.

"I believe we're heading in the right direction and are on our way to achieving the ultimate success in the coming years," Shiel said.

"Having been here since the very start, I've seen the club grow both on and off the field and I'm enjoying life in Sydney.

"I've made some great mates here at the Giants and this is where I want to play my football."

Coach Leon Cameron praised Shiel as one of the most professional AFL players he's ever come across.

"Like many of his team mates, Dylan can see the direction the club is heading in and I know our members and supporters will be thrilled that Dylan has re-committed," Cameron said.

The news puts the future of Shiel's midfield colleague Adam Treloar under increased scrutiny.

Big Victorian clubs are also circling the 22-year-old and are reportedly willing to pay far more than what the Giants can offer.

The fourth-placed Giants will play Collingwood at the MCG on Sunday.
