Shirtless brothers charged over brutal train bashing

Two brothers who handed themselves into police following a brutal assault on a train in Sydney's west have been charged.

Police on Tuesday released CCTV images of the men who were wanted for questioning over an attack on a 48-year-old man travelling home from a rugby league game at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday night.

The victim was allegedly punched in the face a number of times, and suffered a broken nose, two black eyes, a cut to his forehead.

He also underwent plastic surgery for a cut to his lip, police said.

The images of the alleged attackers posted on the NSW Police Facebook page reached an audience of 180,000 people after they went viral on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The men, aged 26 and 28, handed themselves into police soon after.

Both were charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and affray.

They were granted strict conditional bail and are due to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on October 29.
